MUSCLE KNOTS: What are they?

MUSCLE KNOTS: What are they?
A muscle knot, or myofascial trigger point, is a small, tight, and tender area in a muscle that feels like a lump or nodule. It occurs when muscle fibers contract and fail to relax properly, often due to overuse, stress, poor posture, or injury. These knots can cause discomfort, limit movement, and sometimes refer pain to other areas of the body.
Common causes of muscle knots include:
  • Repetitive movements (e.g., typing, lifting weights)
  • Poor posture (e.g., hunching over a desk)
  • Dehydration
  • Stress and tension
  • Muscle imbalances or injuries
How to Relieve a Muscle Knot:
  • Massage (self-massage, foam rolling, or professional massage)
  • Stretching to improve muscle flexibility
  • Heat therapy (heating pads or warm baths)
  • Hydration and proper nutrition
  • Rest and avoiding overuse
If knots persist or cause severe pain, seeing a Physiotherapist or Massage Therapist may help.
